Cobalt blue illustrations on white porcelain
Ocean adorns vivid depictions of the sea, illustrated by Eleonore Gerhaher since 2014. Algae, shells and fish form a contemporary interpretation of maritime décor that is closely linked to the use of cobalt as a colorant.
The maritime motifs are created with cobalt oxide, which is processed in a paste in a multi-layer ceramic silkscreen print. The resulting serigraphy is applied by hand to the high-fired bisque porcelain with a transfer medium and fused in a second firing at up to 1400°C. Consequently, the illustrations appear to be water colored.
